“I’m petite, but I want a cute swim-suit…”

I’m going to the beach in a little over a month, and I need a new swimsuit. I’m petite (5′1″ at 105 lbs), with a small bust-line, and I want something simple, with some coverage.

Any advice on what kind of swimsuit I should get? Also, what kind of cute outfits should I purchase for my trip?

Hello Megan,

There are so many options for swim-wear right now. You could go for a one-piece; which, thankfully, are a lot more cute now than they were in the past. Most of them have colorful patterns & are all very unique in their own way. Try to find some with some cute embellishments, like beads, or unique ruching. Those things can easily make a seemingly boring one piece into fashionable beach wear.

Or… you could go with a classic tankini, which is flirty & fun, but not as revealing as a bikini.

Another great option would be pairing a bandeau swim-top, with short-style bottoms. Short-style bottoms give way more coverage in the bum area, which I personally prefer over triangle bottoms. (See some examples below!)

Feel free to buy more than one swin-suit. By having more than one option, you’ll be able to customize your beach wear to your mood. I like to buy two different types of bikinis, & then mix the bottoms or tops with each other. Doing this will make it seem like you’ve got four brand new swim-suits!

For cute outfits, go for pieces that are light in weight & fabric, as well as simple cover-ups for when you are on the shore. Things like linen shorts & gauze-like dresses are very airy & beachy.

You could also go with tube dresses, which are so easy to slip on & off, & would still look very cute over any bathing suit. In the evening, you could dress up a tube dress (or a gauze dress) with some jeans, a light sweater — for those cooler beach nights — & some sandals. Scarves are another perfect accessory for beach-wear, because you can easily turn it into a head wrap, or perhaps even a sarong!

There are so many options for beach-wear. Just remember to experiment & see what works best with your body & your style.
