“what spring/summer clothing essentials do you recommend?”
dear apricot,
I’m working on restocking my closet right. Some of the pieces in there were just horrid! So I was wondering: what kind of spring/summer clothing essentials do you recommend I get for my closet? Any tips you have for me?

Hello Tay!
This question was so fun for me to answer, because there are many, many ways to be creative with spring/summer wear. Here is an example of the endless possibilities of spring/summer looks. Consider this a sort of inspiration board for you.

(for product information click here.)
No spring/summer wardrobe would be complete without one simple item: a t-shirt.
A plain t-shirt might seem boring, but look at it as a canvas. When you have the perfect foundation for your outfit (white t-shirt, & perhaps some jean shorts), you can add other things to make it unique. A vest, a printed scarf, funky necklaces, & so on. Now your ordinary t-shirt looks intriguing & personal.
I suggest getting lots of cotton t-shirts, in different colors, with different attributes. V-necks, graphics, pockets, colorful patterns, your favorite quote — anything! (There are also some very neat ways to customize a plain white tee, as Alicia from Instant Vintage shows you here.)
Also, try to find pieces that are unique in their own ways. Like a floral skirt, or a nifty looking bag, or perfectly adorned sandals. When you have interesting pieces, you’ll be able to plan your wardrobe around them. It’s much easier to do it that way, I think.
& accessories are dire in making your outfit pop. It’s often the perfect place to start when you’re absolutely stumped (or overwhelmed) with how you should switch up your wardrobe. Accessories, if chosen correctly, can magically transform the entire look of your outfit, without a lot of effort. For example: a simple white dress can easily turn into a sassy ensemble, if paired with studded boots, a light necklace, & a straw fedora. Never underestimate the power of accessories.
Oh, & get yourself a pair of perfect-fitting sunglasses. That little item alone has the ability to pull an outfit together, completely.
Remember, keep your fabrics light, & your layers flimsy. Experiment with different silhouettes, lengths, textures, stitchings, & colors. If you don’t like the way you put together a certain outfit, take it off & try again! Fashion & finding your style is all about experimentation. So have fun with it & play around with all of the possibilities.
