Maisie: I am not sure what you're asking, but I think you're wondering if a relaxer will mess up your hair. It depends on your hair's texture, & it depends on the relaxer's strength. Some hair can handle the harsh chemicals in relaxers (sodium hydroxide); most can't, simply because it's far too strong. If you're considering doing a relaxer, get it done professionally. There, they will be able to tell you whether or not your hair is right for a relaxer, & if so, what strength is good for it.

As far as age goes, I think putting relaxers on a child's hair is wrong. I think the right age would be when you're in your teens. Because then, you know what the relaxer will do to your hair, whereas a little child doesn't understand the concept, the burning, & the breakage.
