“what would you wear with orange skinny jeans?”
dear apricot,
I recently embarked on a journey to discover my personal style. After years of just buying “what everyone else was wearing”, I decided that it was time to start wearing what I wanted to wear. One of the first items I bought was a pair of orange skinny jeans from Uniqlo, Oxford Street [uniqlo.co.uk]. They were one of the first things I laid eyes upon when I entered the store and I instantly fell in love with them. But since purchasing them about two months ago, I’ve only worn them once and I have no idea what to wear them with. The first time, I just wore them with a black top and black gladiator sandals.
Please could you give me some ideas as to what I could wear with these lovely jeans? If you had orange jeans… what would you rock them with?

Fashionista,
First of all, I commend you on being willing to try new things; especially something as bold as orange skinny jeans. In that sense, I don’t think you are “an amateur fashionista” at all. In fact, I think you are quite brave! I don’t even think that I have the courage to give orange jeans a go. So give yourself some credit! That is probably the most important step in learning to embrace your personal style.

You wanted to know what I would wear with orange skinny jeans. Truthfully, because I am not much into color — I only just started wearing a pair of white jeans for the first time in 12 years — this was a difficult question for me to answer. But I’m glad you asked it, because it enabled me to step outside of my comfort zone. & now that I have, I’m actually wondering if I should purchase a pair of orange jeans! (So thank you for that.)
So… what would I wear with orange skinny jeans?
I would wear… a white t-shirt, with a cute graphic on it. You can never go wrong with a white t-shirt. & because it has an adorable graphic on it, it gives the outfit intrigue.
I would wear… a cream colored, cropped tank-top. Cream is a very understated color, & blends well with orange. The zebra detail also adds personality to the outfit. If you’re not too keen on wearing cropped tops, you can simply wear a longer tank top underneath, preferably in black.
I would wear… a multi-colored shirt, with splashes of orange in it. My mother taught me how to do this. Finding a shirt that has very similar color attributes as the jeans — like the multi-colored tank above — would match perfectly. The orange color may not be blatant in the shirt, but you can see that there are hints of that hue within it.
I would wear… a burnt orange sweater. Create a monochromatic look by combining a darker shade of orange with the lighter shade from the pant. You wouldn’t think that it works, but it does!
I would wear… a black & white striped blouse. When all else fails, stick with the most commonsense combination: black & white. The stripes will give the outfit the appropriate balance between light & dark, while still looking simple & put together.
I can’t wait to see what you think up. Have fun!
